PM Awas Yojana: No MC staffer can ask for money for providing benefits; residents should check ID cards before handing over documents, says MC

Taking note of the complaints received regarding a few anti-social elements duping residents on the pretext of providing them benefits under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has appealed the residents to stop handing over cash to anyone and check the identity (ID) card of the persons before getting into any conversation.

The municipal authorities stated that no MC staffer can demand cash/funds from the residents for getting them enlisted under the Yojana, geo-tagging of the plots/houses and at the time of releasing funds to eligible residents.

The field visits are conducted only for verification purposes and the residents should check the identity cards of the people visiting their houses.

MC Additional Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal stated that the civic body officials have received a few complaints in the recent past wherein the residents have alleged that some anti-social elements duped them of cash on the pretext of getting them listed under the yojana.

Dachalwal stated that the MC staffers move to the field only for verification purposes and no funds are demanded from residents. The residents should ask for ID cards of the residents before handing over documents or sharing any information. The residents can visit the MC Zone A office (room number 74) for getting information regarding eligibility, the enlistment process and the formalities/documents required for the same.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative by the Government of India wherein funds are provided to the residents belonging to the economically weaker section of the society for the construction and repair of houses.
