Warner Bros. has recently positioned Dune: Part Three to potentially outperform Avengers: Doomsday during their concurrent release weekend this coming December.
Starting Monday, fans have been able to purchase IMAX 70mm tickets for Dune: Part Three at selected venues, according to an announcement from IMAX. This early sale begins more than eight months before the movie’s official release.
In the United States, IMAX 70mm tickets are available at venues including Harkins Arizona Mills in Arizona; several locations in California such as Regal Hacienda Crossings, Regal Irvine Spectrum, and Regal LA Live & IMAX; and AutoNation IMAX in Florida at the Museum of Discovery & Science.
Tickets can also be purchased at Regal Mall of Georgia in Georgia; the IMAX Theatre at Indiana State Museum in Indiana; AMC Lincoln Square 13 and Cinemark Tinseltown Rochester & IMAX in New York; and several other locations across Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
International fans are not left out, with tickets also available at Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan and Cineplex Cinemas Langley in Canada, the BFI IMAX in the United Kingdom, and IMAX Melbourne in Australia.
Dune: Part Three concludes the trilogy directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on the novels by Frank Herbert. The story follows Timothée Chalamet’s character, Paul Atreides, on his monumental journey to dominate the planet Arrakis.
The franchise began with the first film released in 2021, featuring a high-profile cast including Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac, among others. The film was a commercial success, earning $411 million worldwide and receiving an 83% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The second installment, Dune: Part Two, released two years later, surpassed the first in both earnings and critical acclaim, securing $715 million at the box office and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The ensemble cast from the previous films, including Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa, returns for the third film, joined by new additions such as Isaach de Bankol and Robert Pattinson.
Dune: Part Three is set to premiere on December 18, the same release date as Avengers: Doomsday. The latter marks the first Avengers film since Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and features Robert Downey Jr. reprising his MCU role, but this time as the villain Doctor Doom.
The Russo Brothers are also returning to direct the latest Avengers installment, promising a gathering of numerous beloved Marvel characters.
Both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are set to captivate similar fanbases on their shared release date, a strategy unlike the 2023 release pairing of Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Despite the competition, Warner Bros. has not indicated any changes to the release date. However, they have secured a significant benefit by reserving IMAX screens for the first three weeks of release, ensuring that Avengers: Doomsday will not be shown in IMAX during that period in the US. Additionally, the early availability of IMAX 70mm tickets for Dune: Part Three further boosts its initial release prospects.
Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are both scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, December 18, 2026.
