Isabella Rossellini to Receive Honor at Locarno Film Festival

The esteemed Locarno Film Festival, scheduled for August 5-15 this year, will celebrate Isabella Rossellini with a special tribute.

Rossellini is slated to receive the prestigious Excellence Award from the festival. This accolade has previously been bestowed upon notable figures such as Susan Sarandon, John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, Michel Piccoli, Anjelica Huston, Carmen Maura, Isabelle Huppert, and will be awarded to Golshifteh Farahani in 2025.

Giona A. Nazzaro, the Artistic Director of the festival, praised Rossellini in a statement, calling her a “true legend of contemporary cinema.”

Nazzaro expressed his admiration by stating, “Isabella Rossellini possesses a unique talent and has consistently embraced artistic challenges and transformations with fearlessness. Her approach to her craft is joyfully unconventional and she has continually excelled in her performances and creative choices, making unpredictability her hallmark.”

He continued, “We are immensely proud and honored to present Isabella Rossellini with the Excellence Award. Her visionary artistry and understated genius have significantly influenced contemporary film with her immense talent and profound humanity.”

During the festival, Rossellini will present her self-directed web series Green Porno (2008-09), along with a showcase of other works including My Dad is 100 Years Old (2005), Seduce Me (2010), Mammas (2013), and Darwin, What? and Darwin, What? What?, which she co-directed with Paul David Magid in 2020.
