The latest action-packed movie starring Jason Statham, Mutiny, is slated for a re-release this fall following a lackluster summer at the box office.
Mutiny, often compared to Die Hard but set on a ship, features Statham in the role of Cole Reed, a security chief for a wealthy businessman. Wrongly accused of his employer’s murder, Reed sneaks onto a freighter to uncover the truth and dismantle a criminal organization. The film also stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester.
The film, rated R, initially hit theaters on August 21, but will be available for purchase on November 3 on various formats including 4K Ultra HD ($42.99), Blu-ray ($39.99), and DVD ($29.96). Additionally, a special 4K Ultra HD SteelBook edition will be sold exclusively through Amazon for $34.99.
It remains unclear what additional content, if any, will be included in these releases. Mutiny is already available on Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) services such as Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, Google TV, and YouTube.
Lionsgate has also unveiled the cover for the 4K Ultra HD version, which depicts Statham’s character Cole Reed brandishing a firearm through a ship’s porthole.
Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny marks his first major film project since the 2023 action thriller Plane. His other directorial works include The Emperor of Paris, Blood Father, One Wild Moment, and Assault on Precinct 13. The screenplay for Mutiny was penned by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, with Statham and Marc Butan co-producing.
Despite the anticipation, Mutiny did not perform well financially, garnering just $29.3 million against its $40 million budget. Compounding its challenges, Amazon mistakenly released the movie in full on Prime Video for several hours shortly before its theatrical debut, which may have impacted its box office results.
Critical reception was mixed, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 50%. However, audience feedback was significantly more positive, reflected in an 86% score from viewers, highlighting a stark contrast between critic and audience opinions.
Statham, a fixture in action cinema known for his roles in The Transporter, The Expendables, and Fast and the Furious series, has a versatile portfolio that includes Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, The Italian Job, The Pink Panther, Spy, The Meg, and The Beekeeper. Earlier this year, he appeared in Shelter.
Looking ahead, Statham is set to return in The Beekeeper 2, scheduled for release in January 2027, and will star in Jason Statham Stole My Bike next August. Until then, fans can look forward to the upcoming physical release of Mutiny this November.
