Netflix, Globo Strike Deal for Brazilian Hits: 'I'm Still Here' & 'India - A Love Story'

Netflix has purchased a substantial collection of films and series from Brazilian media titan Globo, including Walter Salles’ Oscar-winning feature I’m Still Here.

The agreement — the most extensive programming deal yet between the U.S. streamer and Globo — covers a bundle of 14 movies, three telenovelas and one television series.

The license for I’m Still Here applies only within Brazil. For several other titles, however, Netflix secured worldwide rights, among them Vitória, directed by Andrucha Waddington and featuring Academy Award nominee Fernanda Montenegro.

Another arrangement limited to Brazil covers the comedy series Vai Que Cola, created by Leandro Soares and directed by João Fonseca and Regis Faria. Netflix has obtained the show’s seven seasons.

Among the telenovelas included in the package is India – A Love Story. Created by Glória Perez and helmed by Marcos Schechtman, the series won the International Emmy for Best Telenovela in 2009. Netflix’s rights for this title extend to the U.S. and Latin America.

These Globo programs are scheduled to arrive on Netflix starting in mid-2027.

“For decades, we have been committed to sharing the richness of our culture with the world,” said Pedro Garcia, Globo’s Director of Rights. “Pairing that expertise with Netflix’s global reach allows us to bring Brazilian creativity to fresh audiences, grow our footprint and boost recognition of Brazilian film and television internationally.”

The deal represents a major sales win for Globo. At the same time, the Brazilian broadcaster has been active on the acquisition front as well, picking up the game-show format The Perfect Line from Paramount Global Content Distribution.

The format debuted on GSN in the United States. In Brazil, Globo will adapt it as a segment within its Saturday afternoon entertainment program Caldeirão com Mion.

The game challenges contestants to arrange a set of items, events or facts in their correct sequence.
