Was another alternate reality removed from the Sacred Timeline?

It looks like things are about to change in the near future avenger Sequel, which, at least for now, is called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Named after a Marvel Comics storyline in which the time-traveling supervillain conquers Earth, the film was intended to star Jonathan Majors as the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the character, previously appearing as Kang (or variants of Kang). Loki Seasons 1 and 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

At the moment none of this is the case officially changed. But Jonathan Majors continues to have major legal problems due to his arrest and upcoming trial on assault and harassment charges. (Loki Season 2 featured “Majors” as another Kang variant, but ended in a way that could be construed as him being completely removed from Marvel’s ongoing storyline. And lately there have been all sorts of rumors about what’s going on behind the scenes of this film. The newest: The Hollywood Reporter says the film has lost its director, Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“Cretton has been involved since last year when the news was announced immediately after San Diego Comic-Con.” THR writes.

THR also claims that “it is unclear” whether Jeff Loveness’ script for the film is still in the works or whether “another writer will now attempt” to rework the material. It is still completely unclear which Marvel heroes will appear as Avengers in the film.

This news follows a series of similar announcements that Marvel projects have been postponed or heavily reworked. Marvel will only release one feature film in cinemas in 2024 (Deadpool 3); For the first time since 2012, they only had one new film in a calendar year (not counting 2020 and the worst of the pandemic). They are also in the middle of revising their film Daredevil: Reborn The TV show has been produced almost entirely from scratch and will reportedly scrap much of the footage for it that they had shot before the actors’ strikes began.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. At least for now.
