The seventh season of “Big Mouth” follows the now teenage students of Bridgeton Middle School on their way to high school. Change is the only constant as each character faces a new school, new friends, new enemies and new hormone monsters.

Each season of the comedy series has explored larger and more complex themes. In comparison, the series started off on a mild note in Season 1, with episodes focusing on first menstrual periods, pubic hair, porn, and sexual orientation. Since then, the series has evolved along with its characters, dealing with vagina shame, depression, a-sexuality, racial identity, and maybe even true love over six seasons…maybe. Season 7 is about overcoming even greater emotional, social and sexual hurdles as the kids face the biggest change of their lives: high school.

In addition to voicing many of the series’ characters, Kroll also largely bases the series on his own childhood and his real-life friendship with co-creator Andrew Goldberg, who is the inspiration for the main character Andrew Glouberman. The animated Nick and Andrew’s stories are based on the real-life childhood friendship of the two, who were best friends in middle school. In seventh grade, the two attended a sleepaway camp together, similar to their lively counterparts. While the story that Andrew and another camper became close friends is true, Kroll has yet to confirm whether any of the messier parts of this story stem from real-life inspiration.
