Still: A Michael J. Fox film was the top winner of the 2023 Critics Choice Documentary Awards, presented Sunday night.

Other awards the film received included the Best Narrative Award for Michael J. Fox. It also won a total of five awards for best biographical documentary, best direction for Davis Guggenheim and best editing for Michael Harte.

Elsewhere, Jon Batiste won best score for American Symphony following his five Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year. American Symphony was also named best music documentary.

20 days in Mariupol won two awards, for best first documentary and best political documentary.

The eighth annual edition of the awards ceremony, hosted by Wyatt Cenac, was held at New York’s Edison Ballroom.

The winners were announced in 18 categories across film, television and digital platforms. Also this year, the Critics Choice Association honored Ross McElwee with the Pennebaker Award, formerly known as the Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award and named after the late DA Pennebaker, the late lifetime achievement honoree

This year’s ceremony was livestreamed across YouTube, Facebook and X (formerly known as Twitter).
