All ’90s kids are nostalgic for Disney Afternoon, the weekday afternoon programming block that features a rotating selection of Disney animated series. Most of the biggest Disney Afternoon shows were spin-offs or updates of existing Disney productions DuckTales with Scrooge McDuck (and its later spin-off). Perhaps the most enduringly popular Disney Afternoon show was not based on something from Disney’s existing intellectual property library Gargoyle, a fairly dark and atmospheric show ostensibly designed to entertain children in the hours between getting home from school and dinner. The series was about stone gargoyles who turn out to be ancient monsters that have been encased in stone for centuries. They reawaken in present-day New York City and become unlikely heroes.

The series ran for 78 episodes over three seasons and attracted loyal fans for its well-developed characters and storylines. This hardcore Gargoyle Fans have been clamoring for some sort of update or revival for years and now they could finally get one – in live-action form Gargoyle TV series for Disney+.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan and Gary Dauberman’s Atomic Monster are working on this update; Dauberman “will write, executive produce and showrunner the series.” Her article also states, “While Disney has not overtly attempted to adapt the series into other formats, it did attempt a feature film about gargoyles around the same time in 2010 to develop in modern times.” The sorcerer’s apprentice.
