Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated addition to the November cinema calendar is a big change Dune: Part Two has been postponed to next year due to the ongoing actors’ strike preventing stars from promoting their projects.
Legendary and Warner Bros.’ The big-budget sequel was slated to hit theaters in North America in time for its worldwide rollout on November 3, but will debut domestically on March 15, 2024 instead. In a joint move, Legendary and Warners have pushed back Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire one month to April 12, 2024 (previously scheduled to open on). duneThe new date is March 15th.
Finally push the next one godzilla This resulted in the relocation of New Line and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim from April 12, 2024 to December 13, 2024. (Live action by New Line LOTR Tent poles were a staple in December.)
dune 2 becomes the biggest casualty yet in terms of the strike’s impact on the 2023 theatrical release calendar and is not good news for cinema owners. But the effects could have been far worse. Significantly, Warners is keeping its three big December films on the calendar: wonka (Dec. 15), Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 20) and The colour purple (25 December).
Insiders say Warner Bros. is committed to theater and is reluctant to move forward broadly following the upheaval of the pandemic, even amid the uncertainty of the WGA’s and SAG-AFTRA’s dual strikes.
A movie like dune“The film,” which boasts a star-studded cast led by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, would struggle to realize its full box-office potential without a strong global promotional push from talent. Legendary, home of the high-profile sequel, made the decision with Warners, its distributor. An awards campaign would also be problematic.
Newbies join this dune The franchise includes Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux. Recurring cast members include the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista and Charlotte Rampling.
Insiders say Legendary can’t wait any longer before pulling the plug, considering Warners should have started marketing it dune 2 seriously until early September. Insiders are confident the extra time will allow the cast to participate in a worldwide marketing offensive as originally intended. The film’s new release date is supported by a full Imax release. With spring break and the Easter break that follows, March is an ideal time to release event photos.
Released in 2021, Villeneuve’s dune grossed more than $402 million at the worldwide box office, a solid and promising number given the pressures of the pandemic and the fact that it was released simultaneously on HBO Max. The sequel is hoping to be an even bigger draw for a variety of reasons.
“part One is more of a thoughtful film. Second part is an action-packed, epic war film. It’s much denser. We visited all the new locations,” said Villeneuve at CinemaCon in April. “I didn’t want a sense of repetition. They are all new sets. Everything is new.”
