Magnum PI has had a wild ride on the small screen since it premiered in 2018, and not even because it’s a reboot of the Tom Selleck original. Originally airing on CBS, the Jay Hernandez-directed drama was canceled after four seasons before being salvaged by NBC for a fifth season. Season 5 has been available to stream for viewers with a Peacock Premium subscription since the episodes began airing on NBC, however seasons 1 through 4 have not been available on a streaming plan recently. Now that’s finally about to change, and I’ve already picked the early episode to stream first.

How to stream Magnum PI

The first four seasons of Magnum PI will be available to stream on Amazon’s Freevee starting Friday, September 1, according to TVLine. While Freevee isn’t a streamer of the same size as Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video, the Amazon service is free and offers some of the best free movies online and TV shows online, including originals like Jury Duty.

Even if fans can’t watch every episode of Magnum PI (that’s almost 100) on the same streamer, each season will be available soon between Freevee and Peacock. The remaining episodes of season five will go to Peacock when the series returns on the 2023 TV guide, and sadly these will be the series’ last save for a second save. NBC cancelled Magnum PI already in June.

We can always hope that the first four seasons coming out on Freevee could be a sign that the Amazon free streaming service can save money magnums for the second time, but that’s just speculation at this point. What I do know for sure is which episode I’ll be rewatching first when seasons 1-4 come out on September 1st.

The first episode to watch again

There are a lot of great episodes in the first four seasons Magnum PI, including some standout events leading up to Magnum and Higgins getting together at the very end of season four. Of course, the most logical way to revisit the series would be to start all over again. Having said that, I will 100% skip to my favorite episode of the show: Episode 19 of Season 1 entitled “Blood in the Water”.

I won’t give away every detail of the episode here in case someone is watching it for the first time or wanting to re-watch it after forgetting some details since it aired in 2019, but it does cover how Magnum and Higgins “were on the yacht.” “bloated” by Meer after being shot in the arm. The couple – who aren’t even officially partners at this point – must figure out how to survive being stranded at sea, bleeding profusely from Higgins and the threat of the yacht jackers returning. Not only does this episode have a great storyline, I see it as the first example of Magnum and Higgins really connecting beyond banter and forming their future official partnership. Also, it’s just visually stunning to see Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks deliver their performances up to their necks in water. While I’m not sure what camera tricks were used to make it appear like they were truly alone in the middle of the sea, they certainly worked for me!

You can watch “Blood in the Water” (or any episode from the first four seasons) on Freevee starting September 1, or every episode of Season 5 through the spring finale with some of what Jay Hernandez calls Magnum’s “hard” designated, rewatch “swallow” actions with Peacock. With the second half of Season 5 premiering on NBC on October 4th, now’s a good time for a little trip down memory lane!
