Renowned economist Peter Ship defended Donald Trump’s Claims about the 2020 election that said the former president was seeking the accuracy of the election results, not an overthrow.
What happened: Schiff took to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday to voice his opinion on the media’s portrayal of Trump’s stance on the 2020 election results. He explained: “The media keeps accusing #Trump of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.” But if Trump believed the election was rigged and that the results did not reflect the actual votes, then he wasn’t trying to not to falsify the results, but to ensure that the results were accurate.”
This tweet comes amid ongoing discussions about Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was rigged.

Why it matters: In a recent interview, Trump insisted that his claim of a rigged election was his own decision, declaring: “You know who I listen to? Myself. I saw what happened.”
Trump’s campaign suffered multiple lawsuit defeats that challenged the 2020 election results and their baseless conspiracy theories were rejected. Nevertheless, Trump remains defiant and maintains his stance on the election results.
Schiff previously noted that he believes the Democratic Party has a double standard when it comes to claims of voter fraud in 2020.
