People completely shame her for it

Jennifer Lawrence’s long-awaited romantic comedy No Hard Feelings arrived on US Netflix yesterday (it’s coming to the UK sometime in 2024). And after a drought of good romantic comedies since probably the early 2000s, the hype was high for an Oscar-winning actress to embrace her hilarious demeanor to play Maddie: a woman who tries to seduce a 19-year-old, to save her family Before he’s shipped off to Princeton, he gets home through a very suspicious Craigslist job ad posted by his wealthy parents.

Except no one’s talking about No Hard Feelings’ plot, performances, or effortlessly clever script — because all anyone can focus on is Jennifer’s body. Especially every inch of a full-frontal nude scene. All morning, the Jennifer Lawrence nude scene was a popular Google search. “Jennifer Lawrence stuns fans with FULL nude scene in X-rated comedy,” screamed tabloid headlines.

What’s almost worse than the nudity obsession, however, is the way Jennifer is shamed for it. “Let’s be clear: I’m a HUGE fan of J-Law – hell, one of the few JOY defenders out there – but her decision to walk around naked on the beach and amaze teenagers in #NoHardFeelings is hugely baffling.” wrote one Twitter user. “You won an Oscar girl, what the hell made you say ‘yes’ to that?”

Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding alongside Andrew Feldman in “No Hard Feelings.” She shines like the undeniable superstar that she is. Downplaying this because she takes off her clothes and fights a group of teenagers on the beach – one of the many moments of flawless physical comedy sprinkled throughout her performance – is boring and regressive. She’s no less an Oscar winner for getting naked and doing comedy. To suggest otherwise is clever and boring. And if that’s the only thing you can take away from this film’s intelligent script and incredible character chemistry, then honestly, that’s on you.
