Apple CEO Tim Cook meets PM Modi, says committed to investing across the country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening met Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook in New Delhi.

Cook, who is on India visit, on Tuesday, launched Apple’s retail store in Mumbai, the first one in the country after 25 years when the technology company started selling its products and services in the country through partners.

Apple will be launching its second store–in Delhi’s Saket–on Thursday.

Apple’s maiden retail store in the country has been a subject of great speculation since at least 2019 when Indian policymakers warmed up to the idea of welcoming foreign direct investment in single-brand retail.

The permissions to allow such stores have come with riders like mandates on local sourcing in the final finished goods.
