Car catches fire on highway; no casualties

A car caught fire following a road mishap near Dari Pul on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway on Saturday evening, which was doused by the Pune Fire Brigade immediately.

No casualties were reported in the incident, said officials.

The control room of the fire brigade received a phone call around 6.30 pm that a private car had caught fire near Dari Pul in Jambhulwadi area. Fire officer Tushar Kare said that the Mahindra SUV collided with a tempo traveller vehicle, while travelling towards Pune, and caught fire.

“The mishap was not major, but the car caught fire. Four persons travelling in the SUV moved out immediately after the vehicle caught fire. They were not injured in the incident. We suspect that the AC of the car was on, which likely caught fire after the collision… We doused the fire immediately after we reached the spot,” said Kare.
