Cong, NCP slam state govt over police action on Barsu-Solgaon protesters

MAHARASHTRA’S OPPOSITION Congress and Nationalist Congress Party on Friday slammed the state government over the alleged police brutality on local residents opposing oil refinery project in Barsu-Solgaon village and questioned the absence of the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM.

“The Shinde government is trying to impose the refinery project at Barsu in Ratnagiri district by force while the local residents are strongly opposed to it. If the government tries to implement the project by assaulting local residents and filing false cases against them, we will also give the government a befitting reply,” said state Congress chief Nana Patole.

He said the position of the Congress party is that the government should not take a decision on the Barsu refinery project without taking the local residents into confidence. “But the government is acting in a dictatorial manner. It will not be tolerated if the government does injustice to the local people by using force and suppress those who are opposed to the project,” he said.

Congress chief spokesperson Atul Londhe termed Shinde and Fadnavis as ‘kings of ignorance’ who are either on holiday or travelling outside India.

Nationalist Congress Party Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha Supriya Sule shared a video of police action in the area, appealing the state cabinet to discuss the issue with local people before finalising the site for the project.

“The government should not try to impose the project on local residents. It is improper to not consider the opinion of local people and therefore the members of state cabinet must come together and hold talks with them,” she said.
