Ex-Karnataka deputy CM G Parameshwara hurt in ‘stone pelting’ during campaigning

G Parameshwara, a senior Congress leader and former deputy chief minister of Karnataka, sustained a head injury in a suspected stone-pelting incident on Friday while he was on an election campaign trail in Byrenahalli of Koratagere taluk in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district ahead of Assembly elections on May 10.

The incident took place while his supporters were showering flower petals on him. ParameshwaraHis condition is stable, a police officer said.

While the police suspect stone pelting, they are also exploring the possibility that a flag pole held by a party worker might have hit him. The police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the area.

On April 19, a stone was pelted at Parameshwara while he was at the Koratagere taluk office to submit his nominations. The stone had hit a woman police constable, who had sustained injuries.
