For Kalyana Karnataka, Rahul promises: Rs 5K cr, Rs 1 cr for each village
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday promised that the party would fill almost 50,000 government job vacancies for the people of Kalyana Karnataka, allocate Rs 5,000 crore for its development, and grant Rs 1 crore to every gram panchayat in the region. He made the promises at a public event in the Jewargi constituency in Kalaburagi district.
Gandhi said that during the tenure of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the region was provided with a special development status under Article 371J of Constitution. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government had rejected the proposal, he added.
“When the proposal for Article 371J was made, the then NDA PM, Vajpayee, had opposed it. We brought it into force. The BJP has not implemented it. We had allotted Rs 3,000 crore for the region, but the BJP has allotted only 12% of this amount. Nearly 50,000 job vacancies in the region have not been filled up. We will fill up these vacancies,” Rahul said.
“We will provide special loans for education and bring higher education in the form of IITs and IIMs over here. We will allot Rs 5,000 crore for the development of the region. Every gram panchayat will get an allocation of Rs 1 crore,” he added.
The Congress leader also emphasised the Congress’s poll “guarantees” of Rs 2,000 per month to woman head of families, 200 units of free power to every household, Rs 3,000 per month to unemployed graduates, 10 kg rice to every member of a BPL family each month, and free bus rides for women in public transport services.”
