‘I am not able to understand why the govt is saving Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh: Priyanka Gandhi
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday visited Jantar Mantar to meet the wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief & BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The wrestlers have been protesting since Sunday, demanding the removal and criminal action against Brijbhushan over alleged sexual exploitation and harassment as president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
“No one is aware of what is there in the FIR which has been lodged. Why they are not showing it?,” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after meeting the wrestlers.
“When these wrestlers win medals we all tweet and feel proud but today they are sitting on road and not getting justice.
“All these women wrestlers struggle a lot to come to this stage. And I am not able to understand why the govt is saving him (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh)?”
The Delhi Police on Friday had registered two FIRs, one under the stringent POCSO Act and another related to outraging the modesty of a woman, naming WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh following allegations of sexual harassment against him by women wrestlers.
Hearing a plea by seven women wrestlers seeking directions to the Delhi Police to register an FIR against Singh, the top court directed the Police Commissioner to provide security to a minor, one of the seven petitioners.
Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has said he is yet to receive the FIR copy.
“I have not yet received the FIR copy. I will speak once I’ve received the FIR copy,” he told reporters.
Protesting wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik revealed that they will continue their protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the MP is arrested.
“This is our first step towards victory, but the protests will continue,” Sakshi Malik said.
“This fight is not just about getting an FIR filed. This fight is about getting justice, to punish him, send him behind bars and get him removed from all the positions he holds,” Vinesh Phogat added.
