Over 1,500 new infections push active Covid case tally near 6,000 in Delhi

The capital clocked 1,537 Covid cases on Tuesday at a positivity rate of 26.5 per cent and reported five deaths.

With this, Delhi’s Covid tally so far has climbed to 20,25,781. According to the health bulletin issued by the state health department, Covid was the primary cause of death in two, while three deaths were incidental.

The fresh cases emerged out of 5,791 tests conducted the previous day. A total of 3,827 patients are in home isolation. The bed occupancy rate is 4.52 per cent and hospitalisations have been increasing gradually.

On Tuesday, 360 patients were hospitalised, out of which 123 were in ICU, 121 on oxygen support while 17 were on ventilator support. As per the health bulletin, while 289 patients hospitalised are from Delhi, 61 are from outside capital. Total active cases in Delhi currently stand at 5,714.

The number of cases had dropped to zero on January 16 but a surge started in March amid the rising H3N2 virus outbreak and flu cases.

Since April, the numbers have been increasing significantly and crossed the thousand-mark last week.

Delhi on Monday logged 1,017 cases, while the positivity rate jumped to 32.25 per cent, according to data shared by the city government’s health department.

Over the last eight days, 29 fatalities have been recorded in Delhi linked to Covid.
