Two men out on bail in gangrape case set fire to victim’s house in Unnao

Two gangrape accused, out on bail, allegedly set fire to the house of a 14-year-old victim with the help of their associates at a village in Unnao district on Monday, leaving two infants with serious burn injuries, police said. While one infant (four-month-old boy) is the child born out of the gangrape, the other is the teenage victim’s three-month-old sister, they added.

The condition of the two children – one having suffered 30 per cent burn injuries and the other 40 per cent — is said to be serious.

According to the teenage gangrape victim’s family, they were being pressured by the family of the gangrape accused to withdraw the case. Both the girl and the accused are Dalits.

“As per our information, the incident is related to a gangrape incident on February 13, 2022. Three persons — Aman, Satish and Arun — were arrested and sent to jail. Two of them — Satish and Arun — were released on bail,” Unnao Additional District Magistrate Narendra Kumar said.

Aman (18) and Satish (26) were released on bail two months ago, police said.

As per the police complaint lodged by the girl’s mother on Monday evening, “Roshan, Satish, Ranjit, Raj Bahadur, Chandan, and Sukhdeen beat me up and my daughter and set our house on fire in which two children suffered burns. Another person Aman was also involved in this.”

Speaking to mediapersons, the mother of the teenage girl said, “They kept threatening us to withdraw the case. They beat us up and then threw the children in the fire. My and my daughter’s children got burnt.”

Based on her complaint, police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc).

The local Circle Officer said that one of those named in the FIR, Raj Bahadur, has been arrested.
