Woman throws newborn out of hospital window in Pune; FIR lodged

A 19-year-old woman has been booked by the Sinhagad Road police in Pune for allegedly killing a newborn by throwing her out of a hospital window.

According to the FIR, the accused, who resides in a hostel in Narhe, is unmarried and conceived the child following a relationship. Eight months pregnant, she visited a hospital for back pain treatment on April 15, but did not reveal her pregnancy to the doctors. At the hospital, she gave birth to a baby girl in the toilet and allegedly threw the newborn out of the toilet window, killing her.

On being alerted, a team from the Sinhagad Road police station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The police said that since the accused was admitted to the hospital for treatment, she was not arrested right away.

The police have booked the accused under Indian Penal Code section 315 (act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth).
