Interior Minister Suella Braverman has apparently taken to task police officers who worked at LGBTQ+ Pride events, arguing that they were not paid to “wave flags” or “dance with drag queens.”
Braverman told the House that police chiefs and elected officials should focus on “reducing crime and restoring trust, not playing politics.”
Suella, who has lately acted as something of a ringleader in Britain’s culture wars, had responded on Monday (September 18) to fellow Conservative Nick Fletcher, who claimed that police would solve more crimes if they “start busting more bobbys.” to set the road”. struck and stopped promoting unscientific ideologies.”

Braverman echoed Fletcher’s comments, saying, according to The Independent: “My honorable friend is absolutely right. We pay the police to fight crime. It doesn’t matter whether it’s anti-social behavior, harassing cyclists or burglaries, as he mentioned.”
“They are there to keep people safe. We don’t pay them to wave flags in parades, dance with drag queens, or campaign.
“That is why I have ultimately ended all engagement with Stonewall at the Home Office and expect all PCCs (police and crime commissioners) and police chiefs to focus on reducing crime and restoring trust, not playing politics.”
The Home Secretary’s harsh words came shortly after she ordered a review of “police political activism”.
Braverman announced earlier this month that there had been an “unacceptable increase” in police partisanship on major issues, from kneeling and siding with what Braverman called the “highly political” Black Lives Matter movement to to dancing along in parades etc. Displaying the flag of progress.
“In all of these examples, public trust has been damaged by the sight of a supposedly apolitical police force siding with one group over another in a currently contentious area of public debate,” the controversial Home Secretary had claimed. “In all of these examples, the public’s respect for police work has been undermined.”

It’s hard to understand Braverman’s point of view when, earlier this year, an independent investigation into the Met Police found it to be institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic.
In a formal apology in June, the head of London’s Metropolitan Police apologized to the LGBTQ+ community for their past failings and pledged to deploy LGBTQ+ community liaison officers across the city.
With all that said, it might be a little encouraging to the public to see the odd police officer associated with a Progress flag or participating in community pride events.
