Tracking for The wonders varies greatly depending on the research company; NRG is looking at $72 million to $88 million, while The Quorum is looking at $80 million to $90 million.

The superhero film is unique in that it stars three female leads. It was directed by Nia DaCosta, the first black woman to direct a Marvel Studios film and the youngest director of an MCU film.

The last Marvel Studios title not to be available for $70 million or more was Ant-man in 2015 ($57.2 million). Most MCU films (or 25 of them) have a domestic opening of $100 million or more, with eight films grossing $150 million or more.

One major exception to any fatigue was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The threequel debuted at $106 million domestically and grossed $845.6 million worldwide, just behind the second film ($863.7 million).

In the new film, Larson is joined by Iman Vellani, the breakout star of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvelas well as Teyonah Parris as an adult version of Captain Marvel Character Monica Rambeau. The wonders finds that the heroes are connected in a rather uncomfortable way: every time one of them uses their powers, they swap locations with each other, as was hinted at in the season finale Ms. Marvel last year.

Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur and Saagar Shaikh also star The wonders.
