Netflix’s pain addicts The film originated as an article about the dark side of the opioid business in The New York Times Magazine. (You can still read it if you are one Just (Subscriber.) It later became a book — and now the article and book have been made into a film by Flix and some big stars, including Emily Blunt and Chris Evans.

The film version is by David Yates, whose filmography consists of seven Harry Potter and Harry Potter films over the past 15 years Fantastic Beasts Movies and one previous movie set outside of the wizarding world. Liza Drake (Emily Blunt) is a single worker who just lost her job and is at the end of her tether. A chance meeting with pharmaceutical sales rep Pete Brenner (Chris Evans) puts her on an upward trend economically but ethically dubious as she becomes embroiled in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Dealing with her increasingly unhinged boss (Andy Garcia), the deteriorating health of her daughter (Chloe Coleman), and a growing awareness of the devastation the company is wreaking, force Liza to reconsider her decisions. Pain Hustlers is a sharp and insightful look at what some people do out of desperation and others out of greed.

pain addicts opens in selected cinemas on October 20th. The premiere on Netflix is ​​then scheduled for October 27th.
