Israel continued bombing Gaza today as its forces advanced into the enclave in a ground assault. Israel attacked Gaza after Hamas attacked Israeli cities on October 7, killing about 1,400 people. Hamas militants also took at least 239 hostages.

According to the Israeli government, more than half of the hostages held by Hamas have foreign passports from 25 countries, including 54 Thai nationals.

Medical authorities in the Gaza Strip said on Sunday that 8,005 people – including 3,324 minors – had been killed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to “crush” Hamas militants, who have an extensive network of tunnels in and around Gaza City.

“Help Americans leave Gaza safely”: Biden tells Netanyahu

US President Joe Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Sunday and discussed the situation in Gaza.

“We discussed efforts to secure the release of hostages and help Americans in Gaza exit safely, and I emphasized the need to immediately and significantly increase the flow of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza,” Mr. Biden said .

“I reiterated that Israel has every right to protect its citizens from terrorism and that it has a responsibility to do so in accordance with international humanitarian law, which prioritizes the protection of civilians,” he added.Biden and Egypt’s president discuss humanitarian aid for war-torn Gaza

According to the White House, the two leaders committed to significantly speeding up and increasing aid deliveries to Gaza starting Sunday and continuing thereafter.

“They also discussed the importance of protecting the lives of civilians, respecting international humanitarian law and ensuring that Palestinians in Gaza are not displaced to Egypt or any other country,” the White House said in a statement .

Mr. Biden also briefed President Sisi on U.S. efforts to ensure that “regional actors do not expand the conflict in Gaza,” as well as ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages.

Mr. Biden and Mr. Sisi reiterated their determination to work together to create the conditions for lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East, including the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israel-Hamas war: Telephone and internet cuts in Gaza complicate rescue operations

Telephone and internet outages in Gaza have hampered rescue operations. The cuts appeared to ease on Sunday, but telecommunications provider Paltel said Israeli airstrikes had again knocked out internet and phone services in parts of the enclave’s northern parts, where the Hamas group maintains command centers.

Two days after the Israeli government ordered expanded ground attacks, Israel released a video on Sunday showing its main battle tanks in the northern Gaza Strip. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), IAF aircraft led by IDF troops attacked Hamas structures and killed “several terrorists.”

“Anti-tank missile launch and observation posts were attacked,” the IDF said.

Clashes between Hamas militants and Israeli forces were also reported in a border area east of the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis.
