Harry Potter Returns: Catch the Magic Again on HBO Next Month!

Harry Potter Officially Gets New Release On HBO Next Month

The anticipated Harry Potter television series reboot is on the horizon, expected to launch in a few months. However, before its debut, HBO Max is set to introduce a new initiative connected to the Wizarding World franchise.

HBO Max recently unveiled its programming lineup for May 2026, which includes the premiere of Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast season 1. Details about the podcast are sparse, but from its title, it appears the series will explore and discuss the eight films released between 2001 and 2011.

This Harry Potter film podcast is part of a growing trend where networks and streaming platforms create official podcasts related to their most popular shows and movies.

Expanding the Wizarding World

HBO has previously created similar podcasts for other major series including Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus, among others. The fourth and fifth seasons of Insecuritea: An Insecure Podcast will also be available on HBO Max starting May 1.

Like HBO’s other podcast releases, the Harry Potter film podcast is expected to be accessible on major podcasting platforms, not just HBO Max.

The Harry Potter film series continues to hold a significant place in the hearts of fans worldwide, despite recent controversies surrounding the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs and J.K. Rowling’s comments on transgender issues.

Five years after the last Harry Potter movie in 2011, Warner Bros. initiated a new Wizarding World saga with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a film series based on a book by fictional author Newt Scamander, portrayed by Eddie Redmayne in the films. Although the first film received positive feedback, the subsequent movies faced critical backlash and declining box office earnings. Originally planned as a five-part series, the studio discontinued the project after three films.

Subsequently, Warner Bros. chose to return to the beloved original Harry Potter books, adapting them into a television series, with each season dedicated to a different book.

The television adaptation of the Harry Potter series, starring Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively, is set to premiere in December 2026 on HBO and HBO Max. These actors are stepping into the roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.

Continuing Legacy and New Ventures

While the original movies never clinched an Oscar, they were generally well-received by critics and amassed a total of $7.7 billion at the global box office, making Harry Potter one of the most lucrative franchises in history.

HBO has already teased fans with a trailer and a behind-the-scenes special for the upcoming TV series. Now, they are expanding their engagement with the Harry Potter universe through the official film podcast on HBO Max.

Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast season 1 will officially launch on Tuesday, May 19 on HBO Max.
