Top Execs from Paramount & Disney Join COL Group: Timothy Oh Takes on New Role at FlareFlow!

Ex-Paramount & Disney Execs Join Microdrama Giant COL Group; Timothy Oh Adds FlareFlow Role

COL Group Strengthens Team with Former Paramount and Disney Executives

Microdrama industry leader COL Group has recently enhanced its management team by bringing on board former executives from Paramount and Disney, while also promoting Timothy Oh to a more significant role within the company.

The firm, which is publicly traded in Shenzen, is intensifying its efforts in the American market by appointing Jason Ander as the Head of U.S. Partnerships within Oh’s division of international business. Concurrently, Eileen Low has taken the role of Head of Partnerships and Sales for Asia. In addition to these appointments, Timothy Oh will now serve as the Chief Marketing Officer for FlareFlow, while maintaining his duties as the General Manager for International Business at COL, based in Singapore.

Next month, COL plans to further expand its team by hiring a Head of Marketing and a Head of Content and Operations specifically for its U.S. operations, aiming to enhance the development of the microdrama application FlareFlow.

Backgrounds of New COL Group Leaders

Jason Ander brings a wealth of experience from notable companies such as TikTok, Paramount, and Hulu. His career at Paramount progressed from Director of Brand Partnerships to Senior Director of Digital Strategy. He also held a significant integrated marketing role at Hulu over a span of nine years.

Eileen Low, before joining COL Group, managed affiliate sales at Canal+ and previously worked as a Sales Development Executive at Disney in the now-disbanded Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution division.

Timothy Oh has recently elevated his role following his efforts over the past year to boost international endeavors in areas such as distribution, localization, creator partnerships, and platform expansion. He led the development of COL’s ‘Microdrama-in-a-Box’ solution, which provides content owners with a ready-to-use vertical video application. Oh has also driven the expansion of the company’s microdrama offerings beyond scripted dramas with projects like SupermodelMe.

Expanding the FlareFlow Microdrama App

The COL Group, known for operating microdrama apps like ReelShort, is advancing its FlareFlow app towards a ‘Vertical 2.0’ strategy. This strategy aims to move beyond traditional romantic microdramas to include a wider array of content such as live-action productions, creator-driven stories, branded entertainment, new genres, AI-assisted workflows, and selective AI productions.

FlareFlow has successfully established international partnerships with entities such as the European vertical platform Shorts (Luni) and various creators and producers from Southeast Asia.

Timothy Oh highlighted the unique challenges of adapting vertical content models to different global markets. “The vertical content models that work in China and the U.S. will not necessarily work for every market adopting vertical entertainment,” Oh stated. He emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy that enhances content accessibility, partnerships, localization, and overall accessibility to make vertical content universally accessible. “The only way forward is change,” Oh concluded.
