“The Claudia Winkleman Show” will not return for a second season. The program, which launched earlier this year, will conclude after its initial run.
During a heartfelt announcement, Claudia Winkleman, renowned for her role as host of “The Traitors,” shared that she found herself “just too nervous to enjoy” her experience on the late night talk show, leading to her decision to leave the project.
After leaving “Strictly Come Dancing,” Winkleman was offered her own show by the BBC, coinciding with her rising popularity from her successful tenure on “The Traitors” and “The Celebrity Traitors.” The show was scheduled to air during the spring break of “The Graham Norton Show” to avoid overlapping audiences and competing for guests. Both shows were produced by So Television, with Winkleman’s own company, Little Owl, co-producing her show.
Initial Success and Subsequent Challenges
The premiere of “The Claudia Winkleman Show” initially drew an audience of approximately 1.4 million viewers, featuring conversations with high-profile celebrities such as Jeff Goldblum, Lisa Kudrow, James McAvoy, and Dan Levy. Despite these impressive guests, Winkleman felt her enjoyment of the show did not meet her expectations.
Winkleman expressed her sentiments in a statement, noting, “Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realized I was just too nervous to enjoy it. Maybe one day I will give it another try, but for now, I already have the best jobs in the world and absolutely love the shows I’m doing. I’m incredibly grateful to the BBC for the opportunity, to the guests who agreed to come and chat with me, and to the production team who were simply excellent.”
Ed Havard, the BBC’s entertainment chief, stated he “fully respects” Winkleman’s decision, despite describing the show as an “absolute joy.”
Looking ahead, fans of Winkleman can look forward to her return to television. She is set to host the second season of “Celebrity Traitors,” one of the most-watched shows last year, and continues her role with Channel 4’s “The Piano.” This year marks her first absence from “Strictly Come Dancing” after an impressive 15-year run.
