The Marvel Cinematic Universe is introducing significant changes to its Avengers-oriented series.
As Phase 6 approaches its conclusion, The Multiverse Saga is wrapping up with just a few remaining TV shows and movies. While the promotional efforts for Avengers: Doomsday are in full swing, there’s still another Avengers film on the horizon that will cap off this storyline.
Earlier in the year, there were speculations that Avengers: Secret Wars, the last movie in the Phase 6 lineup, might be split into two films. This decision was rumored to hinge on the box office success and the reception of Avengers: Doomsday.
Nonetheless, Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios has clarified these rumors in a recent interview with Joshua Horowitz, dismissing the idea of making Avengers: Secret Wars a two-part film by stating, “not [in] this world.” The principal photography for this 2027 movie is scheduled to begin this summer.
During the interview, Horowitz also inquired about the future direction of the MCU post-Avengers: Secret Wars, questioning whether a reboot was imminent. Feige responded by pointing to the comics for guidance in storytelling, particularly referencing Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars from a decade ago, which he described as providing a clear path for future narratives.
As of now, only limited details are available about the final Phase 6 film, which will see Anthony and Joe Russo return as directors after their work on Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role as Doctor Doom, with lead actors from The Fantastic Four: First Steps also making a comeback.
Moreover, key figures from the 2026 ensemble will appear in the upcoming film. Letitia Wright told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that Shuri, also known as Black Panther, will feature in Avengers: Secret Wars. Simu Liu, returning to the big screen as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, confirmed his participation in the 2027 sequel.
Amidst ongoing speculations about the MCU’s future timeline, there’s curiosity about Sadie Sink’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Reports from November 2025 by Deadline suggested that she would reprise her role from Tom Holland’s summer blockbuster in the upcoming Avengers film. However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm her involvement in the Russo brothers’ project. With the San Diego Comic-Con happening this week, fans are hopeful for some news during the Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 25.
Beyond the significant 2027 finale, Marvel Studios is also expanding its TV show lineup in Phase 6, which includes the upcoming VisionQuest series set to debut on Disney+ in October. Additionally, the third season of Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere in March 2027.
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
