The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for its next significant Avengers narrative.
Since the initiation of Phase 4, the MCU has been delving into the exploration of alternate Earths and various character versions, with the multiverse poised to encounter its greatest challenge yet in the shape of Doctor Doom. While the release of Avengers: Doomsday is just a few months away, preparations for its sequel have already begun.
Deadline has announced that Noah Jupe has secured a role in Avengers: Secret Wars in a yet undisclosed capacity. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are set to return to lead this star-studded film, which is expected to begin production later this year, according to the report.
As of this writing, there has been no official comment from Marvel Studios or Disney regarding Jupe’s casting, nor any specifics on the significance of his role in the upcoming 2027 film. This update follows nearly a year after it was disclosed that Sadie Sink, noted for her role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, would also join the Avengers: Secret Wars lineup.
Although confirmation of the Stranger Things star’s participation in the ensemble film has not yet been made, it would signify a notable reunion for her and Jupe, who recently played Romeo and Juliet in a production on London’s West End from March 16 to June 6 of this year.
Other notable characters expected to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars include the principal heroes from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, along with Letitia Wright and Simu Liu reprising their roles as Black Panther and Shang-Chi, respectively. The year 2027 will also see Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Doctor Doom in the eagerly awaited sequel.
Chris Evans is set to return as Steve Rogers this December and has revealed his participation in Secret Wars. While there has been speculation that the finale of Phase 6 might lead to a reboot of the MCU, this is not precisely what Marvel Studios plans to do.
Kevin Feige clarified in July 2025 that “Reboot is a scary word. It can mean many things to different people. We’re thinking more in terms of a reset or a singular timeline,” emphasizing that “The X-Men will be the focus of this next phase. They’ve always been a medium to explore stories about young individuals who feel out of place, different, or like they don’t belong. That’s the core of the mutant narrative, and that’s our direction.”
With an X-Men reboot slated to follow Avengers: Secret Wars, it wouldn’t be surprising if Jupe were introduced as a well-known mutant. However, whether he will continue to appear in future films beyond 2027 remains uncertain.
With filming expected to commence this fall, more casting details are likely to be announced in the coming months regarding who else will join this Avengers venture. Furthermore, after the release of Doomsday in December, it should become clearer which characters will return in Secret Wars.
The next major MCU event before the team reunites this fall will be the VisionQuest TV series, premiering on October 14 on Disney+. The series wraps up just two weeks before the comic book feature hits theaters, though any potential tie-ins are yet to be confirmed.
