A fresh chapter is on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
Since 2021, the MCU has been heavily invested in exploring alternative universes and different versions of characters. However, post-2027, Marvel Studios is gearing up for a new narrative focus. Mutants are expected to play a more significant role, with Phase 6 already introducing one during Peter Parker’s summer escapade.
Following the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Vanity Fair interviewed Sadie Sink, who commented on reports that Kit Connor was chosen to portray Cyclops in the upcoming X-Men reboot. The former Stranger Things star mentioned, “Did he? There’s always the rumors, and I just never know what’s official.”
Sink also noted that while casting for the film was ongoing, she hadn’t participated in any significant tests. She added, “It’s somewhat separate. I’m getting updates through [director] Jake [Schreier]. There are a lot of online rumors, but it’s coming together. The timing is thrilling, and the strategy they’ve used is really smart, starting with introducing an essential mutant through Spider-Man. I believe a fantastic cast is being assembled, and I think people will be really excited when everything is officially announced.”
As of now, neither Marvel Studios nor Disney have confirmed or debunked the casting of Connor as Cyclops or Samara Weaving as Emma Frost in the reboot.
This summer, Sink brought Jean Grey into the MCU as the young mutant tried to rescue her sister from the Department of Damage Control. After a confrontation with Spider-Man, Jean ultimately saves Peter before departing New York.
When Could The X-Men Cast Be Confirmed?
Amid various speculations and reports about potential actors for the X-Men film, many anticipate a major announcement could happen as soon as this week. The D23 event, occurring between August 14 and August 16, is where Marvel is expected to reveal several updates during their presentation.
While specifics on which titles will be featured are still under wraps, it would be fitting for X-Men to be highlighted at D23. In the same Vanity Fair interview, Sink revealed she is scheduled to shoot the large ensemble project in 2027 and then move on to a series with FX and A24 called The Marriage Plot, set for next year.
If Marvel Studios indeed has their leading cast secured, their introduction on stage at D23 would not come as a surprise. This would be their first public appearance together, potentially offering fans some much-needed clarity about the cast and possibly revealing more about Jake Schreier’s vision for the legendary superhero team.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently screening in theaters, while Marvel Studios’ X-Men is still awaiting a release date.
