AGC Studios has committed to the psychological thriller Sweat, a project rooted in Magnus von Horn’s film that was highlighted at the Cannes Film Festival. The studio will provide financial backing, co-produce, and manage global sales for the movie.
Star Power
The film will feature Ana de Armas in the lead role as Emma Kent, an up-and-coming fitness influencer who aspires to reach the heights of her mentor, the famed social media icon Kat Highbrook.
Plot Twists
Emma’s perfectly managed life spirals out of control following a disastrous meeting with Kat. This incident drags her into a perilous scheme with Trent, a fan whose extreme adoration forces Emma to confront the dark sides of fame and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to achieve her dreams.
Creative Minds
The thriller will be directed by J Blakeson, a UK-based director, screenwriter, and producer known for his work on the Hulu-Disney+ series Culprits, the Netflix success I Care A Lot, The 5th Wave, and his neo-noir debut, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed.
Production Team
Production will be managed by Guy Stodel through his company Rosto Inc., along with Blakeson’s own Crimple Beck production outfit, and Stuart Ford, the Chairman and CEO of AGC.
Upcoming Production Schedule
Filming is scheduled to commence on March 30, 2026, with locations set in Los Angeles and the UK. The international distribution responsibilities will be handled by AGC International, which plans to introduce the project at the European Film Market shortly. The rights for U.S. distribution are jointly represented by WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and AGC, and the team is currently casting additional roles.
Background on the Original Film
Von Horn’s original version of Sweat gained notable attention despite the 2020 Cannes Film Festival’s cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It achieved an impressive international presence after Mubi acquired distribution rights for multiple regions including the U.S., Latin America, India, and Turkey.
Recent Achievements of Ana de Armas
Ana de Armas, an Oscar nominee known for her role in Blonde, recently enjoyed a successful year with notable appearances in the John Wick spin-off Ballerina and Ron Howard’s Eden.
Representation
Ana de Armas is represented by several agencies including WME, Kuranda Management, Bailey Brand Management, Wolf Kasteler Public Relations, and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. J Blakeson is represented by WME, David Higham Associates, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
Deal Details
The agreement for this collaboration was facilitated by Christopher Tricarico of Tricarico Chavez LLP for ROSTO Inc. and by Anant Tamirisa for AGC.
