Channel 4 Confirms Former Warner Bros. Executive Priya Dogra As CEO

Latest Update at 08.23 a.m. GMT

Channel 4 has officially announced the appointment of Priya Dogra, a former top executive at Warner Bros. Discovery in Europe, as its new CEO. She will be taking over from Alex Mahon in March to become the eighth CEO of the broadcaster.

Priya Dogra, previously the EMEA chief at Warner Bros. Discovery, climbed the corporate ladder within the company before moving to Sky. Bringing a wealth of experience from a major American media corporation, Dogra spent 14 years at the company, initially known as Time Warner, later transforming into Warner Media and subsequently Warner Bros. Discovery. After the notable merger at WBD, she secured the prestigious role of President & Managing Director for EMEA but left shortly afterward to join Sky, where she managed the company’s advertising sales division.

Dogra has the distinction of being the first person of color appointed as CEO of a British broadcasting company.

Geoff Cooper, the chair of Channel 4, praised Dogra as an “outstanding executive” and a “visionary leader,” highlighting her “formidable intellect.” Cooper noted, “Her extensive experience in spearheading commercial growth, digital innovation, and forging strong partnerships, along with her proven ability to foster creative environments, implement effective programming strategies, and enhance content production capabilities are commendable. Her passion for Channel 4 and profound grasp of its public service mandate make her the ideal leader for the next era of the broadcaster. We are excited to have her join our team.”

Dogra expressed her enthusiasm about her new role, stating, “It is a true honor to join Channel 4 during such a pivotal time. Few organizations are as central to British culture or carry such a distinct mission—to challenge, represent, and echo diverse voices throughout the UK, and to drive societal change through entertainment. I am eager to collaborate with the talented team at Channel 4 and our partners in the creative sector to further our innovative programming and journalism, push forward our digital goals, and strengthen our engagement with audiences on all platforms.”

Dogra will assume her position in March, with Jonathan Allan serving as interim CEO until her arrival. Allan was a strong contender for the CEO role, alongside Netflix VP Emma Lloyd and former BritBox CEO Reemah Sakaan. Dogra’s candidacy was kept under wraps until it was revealed by the Financial Times earlier today.

Initial Announcement

Prior reports indicated that Channel 4 was set to appoint Priya Dogra, currently Sky’s advertising chief and a former executive at Warner Bros. Discovery, as its next CEO.

The British commercial network was expected to make this announcement shortly, following Alex Mahon’s resignation nearly eight months ago.

The news of Dogra’s likely appointment was first brought to light by The Financial Times, with further confirmation from sources at Deadline. It was reported on Tuesday that a decision on the new CEO was imminent.

Before her stint at Sky, which she joined in June of the previous year, Dogra was with Warner Bros. Discovery for 15 years, eventually rising to the position of EMEA president and managing director.

Deadline disclosed on Tuesday that Emma Lloyd, Netflix’s VP of partnerships EMEA, decided to withdraw from the recruitment process for Channel 4’s CEO, despite being considered a frontrunner. She chose to remain with the streaming service instead.

The other main candidates were Jonathan Allan, Channel 4’s COO and interim CEO, and former BritBox CEO Reemah Sakaan.

The search for the new CEO was tightly controlled, leaving many, even senior Channel 4 executives, in suspense. “It’s been a well-kept secret,” one insider mentioned.

The recruitment was led by Geoff Cooper, who took over as Channel 4’s chair in September, with assistance from the executive search firm Spencer Stuart. According to a job specification obtained by Deadline, the next CEO will guide the broadcaster through a crucial phase in its 42-year history.

As Channel 4 hosted its annual gathering with suppliers on Tuesday, the topic of the next CEO was likely a focal point. Content boss Ian Katz, facing an uncertain future, is expected to address the staff.

Meanwhile, Alex Mahon, the outgoing CEO, is rumored to be a potential candidate to replace Tim Davie as the BBC director general, with the application period closing at the end of the month.
