The performance of Christian Bale as the fictional serial killer Patrick Bateman is so iconic that it has become intimidating for other actors.

Ellis also noted that Scott Z. Burns has completed the screenplay, despite many actors turning down the previous version. He emphasized that “this film will be a completely fresh adaptation, totally distinct from Mary Harron’s 2000 version.“
This new version, according to Ellis, will be a “new interpretation” by Lionsgate, produced by Frenesy Film, with Sam Pressman serving as the executive producer through Pressman Film.

Ellis suggests that Bale’s intense preparation and iconic delivery of the unhinged villain might be causing hesitation.
