New Collaborative Series Announced by Sanrio and Moonbug Entertainment
Sanrio, the company behind the iconic Hello Kitty, has entered into a significant multi-year partnership with Moonbug Entertainment, known for its popular CoComelon series. This collaboration will see the development of a new television series that merges characters from both brands.
Details of the Upcoming Crossover Series
The forthcoming series will feature a blend of characters from Sanrio and CoComelon, including Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and others, alongside JJ and his friends from CoComelon. Scheduled for release in 2026, Moonbug Entertainment will handle the global distribution of the series.
The announcement was made by Kevin Mayer, head of Candle Media, during a fireside chat at the APOS Summit held in Bali. Candle Media owns Moonbug Entertainment, and this announcement marks an important development for both companies.
Prior and Ongoing Collaborations
This partnership marks the first joint venture between Sanrio and Moonbug, following closely on the heels of another significant shift in Moonbug’s strategy—transitioning its CoComelon content from Netflix to Disney+. Moonbug has previously collaborated with various brands across Asia, making this new venture with Sanrio a notable expansion of its partnership portfolio.
Kevin Mayer highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This collaboration unites two influential global brands that have captivated audiences for generations. We are thrilled at the prospect of melding the unique charm and humor of CoComelon with the timeless appeal of Sanrio’s characters. This partnership holds tremendous potential for creating engaging new content, and we look forward to revealing more details later this year.”
Further details about the series, including specific character roles, platform launches, and additional initiatives, are expected to be released in the upcoming months.
The APOS Summit in Bali also featured discussions from executives of major companies such as Netflix, Google, Viu, and BBC Studios, highlighting the event’s role as a pivotal platform for media and entertainment industry announcements.
