Danny Boyle’s Biographical Film on Rupert Murdoch, “Ink,” to Premiere at Venice Film Festival

Danny Boyle’s latest film, Ink, a biopic on media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is set to debut as the opening film of the 83rd Venice Film Festival.

The movie features actors Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy, and will premiere on September 2 at the prestigious Sala Grande, within the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido.

Behind the Scenes of “Ink”

Danny Boyle directed the movie based on a script by James Graham, who also penned the Tony-nominated play Ink on which the film is based. Jack O’Connell portrays The Sun’s editor Larry Lamb, with Guy Pearce playing Rupert Murdoch, and Claire Foy as Jules Davies.

The production sees Boyle teaming up again with producer Tessa Ross, after their previous successful collaboration on Slumdog Millionaire. The film is also produced by Michael Ellenberg and Tracey Seaward. The executive production team includes Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Tonia Davis, Zoe Edwards, James Graham, and Sudie Smyth.

Insights on “Ink” from Venice’s Festival Director

Alberto Barbera, the Director of the Venice Film Festival, introduced the film as a detailed exploration of Rupert Murdoch’s controversial acquisition of the daily newspaper The Sun. He highlighted how Murdoch and editor Larry Lamb transformed the paper into the UK’s top-selling tabloid, overtaking its competitor, The Mirror.

Barbera expressed his gratitude towards StudioCanal, Media Res, and House Productions for allowing the festival the privilege of showcasing this eagerly awaited film as its opener.

StudioCanal financed the production and plans to distribute it across various regions including Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, the Benelux countries, Australia, and New Zealand.
