Disney Axes 3 Marvel Movie Dates: Upcoming Slate Shaken Up!

Robert Downey Jr.

Disney has recently updated the schedule for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it approaches the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. The excitement begins this summer with the launch of Phase 6, featuring the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in cinemas. However, adjustments have been made to the original plans for Phase 6. The release of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has been postponed, now rescheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively. These are not the only changes announced for the MCU.

Previously, Disney had scheduled three unnamed Marvel films for release on February 13, 2026, November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027. The latest updates from the studio have now removed the February 2026 slot entirely from Disney’s calendar, while the projects initially planned for the November 2026 and November 2027 dates have been redesignated as “Untitled Disney” projects.

Implications of Disney’s Adjustments to Marvel’s Release Dates

The decision to completely eliminate the February 13, 2026, slot makes sense since there was no specific Marvel project announced for that date. Currently, Avengers: Doomsday is the only MCU film in production. Even if a new MCU movie were to start filming soon, it wouldn’t be feasible to meet the February 2026 release without compromising post-production quality. This strategic move helps Marvel Studios avoid the risks associated with hurried project timelines.

For the two November dates, reallocating the November 6, 2026 slot to another Disney movie is logical since Avengers: Doomsday is now slated for December of the same year. As Phase 6 will now conclude in December 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars, originally set for May 2027, the November 5, 2027, slot would likely have been intended for a Phase 7 title. With the shift in Marvel’s schedule, this date is no longer needed, pushing the beginning of Phase 7 to 2028. Marvel Studios has lined up three untitled Marvel films for February 18, May 5, and November 10 of that year.

Our Perspective on Disney’s Marvel Schedule Changes

Considering the recent mixed reception of some Multiverse Saga entries, Marvel Studios, under Kevin Feige’s leadership, appears to be prioritizing quality over quantity. This strategy, indicated by the removal of these dates, suggests a refocused commitment to producing well-developed films. This approach not only allows for the completion of current projects within Phase 6 but also sets an exciting stage for Phase 7, where the focus will likely shift towards the X-Men and other mutants. These changes promise a more robust and engaging future for the MCU as it wraps up the Multiverse Saga.
