Doctor Who and Wicked Stars Unite: New Warner Bros Musical Set to Dazzle!

Wicked And Doctor Who Stars To Team Up In New Warner Bros Musical

Ncuti Gatwa of Doctor Who fame and Cynthia Erivo from Wicked have been cast in Warner Bros. new animated musical, Bad Fairies.

As detailed by Deadline, Gatwa has officially been added to the cast of the musical comedy, joining Erivo who was cast last month as the voice of Jayne Staplegun. Bad Fairies centers around a group of rebellious fairies wreaking havoc in their enchanted realm.

While Gatwa’s specific role has not been disclosed, Erivo’s character is depicted as a pioneering fairy who ignites a revolt. Locksmith Animation is collaborating with Warner Bros. Animation on the project, currently in production with a planned release date of May 21, 2027, in cinemas.

The creative minds behind Bad Fairies include writer Deborah Frances-White, known for Young Dracula, with Megan Nicole Dong (Centaurworld) directing and Olivier Staphylas (How to Train Your Dragon) co-directing.

The musical score will be crafted by Tony Award recipients Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, famous for Six: The Musical, and Isabelle Summers from Florence + The Machine, with Ian Eisendrath (KPop Demon Hunters) serving as executive music producer.

Details about the film’s storyline and character specifics remain sparse, though it is expected to feature both comedic elements and an engaging soundtrack.

Currently, Erivo is engaged in a promotional tour for her soon-to-be-released movie, Wicked: For Good, where she plays one of the lead characters, Elphaba. The film has generated substantial box office buzz, breaking ticket sales records within a day of their release. It is set to premiere on November 21, with certain theaters offering a special double feature of John M. Chu’s adaptation.

Gatwa gained global recognition from his role as Eric in Netflix’s Sex Education before taking on the iconic role of The Doctor in Doctor Who. His filmography includes appearances in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and The Roses. He is also slated to feature in upcoming films The Queen of Fashion and Frank and Percy.

Despite Warner Bros.’ potential upcoming sale, which includes discussions with Paramount and Netflix, the production of Bad Fairies appears secure. With the cast and crew already in place, the likelihood of the film being shelved is minimal. The sale of Warner Bros. could result in the division of its assets, yet this seems unlikely to affect the release of Bad Fairies.
