The Evil Dead series is gearing up for its latest addition with Evil Dead Burn, scheduled for release on July 24, 2026.
The upcoming sixth film in the horror series created by Sam Raimi is shrouded in mystery, although a teaser trailer was recently unveiled following the completion of filming (via Bloody Disgusting/X).
The teaser opens with a shot of a clapperboard featuring the title Evil Dead Burn in the iconic typeface of the series. An off-camera voice shouts “action,” and the board claps shut.
The footage continues with a scene showing a distressed character screaming wildly and attacking an unseen adversary with a large, bloodied metal tool. The screen then fades to black, though the sounds of the character’s screams and the continued assault linger.
Evil Dead Burn will be released three years after the franchise’s previous chapter, Evil Dead Rise, which garnered $147 million globally (with a budget of $15-19 million) and received favorable reviews, maintaining an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
After leading the highly successful 2023 movie Evil Dead Rise, director Lee Cronin has left the franchise. He is succeeded by Sébastien Vaniček, a French director known for his 2023 horror film Infested. Vaniček also co-authored the latest Evil Dead screenplay with Florent Bernard.
In a discussion last year with Bloody Disgusting, Vaniček hinted at an Evil Dead film so “nasty” that it might mark his departure from the horror genre, having exhausted his darkest inspirations:
“I expressed to the studio my desire to create a film that’s both painful and challenging. I intend to channel all my inner horror into this project, making it a cathartic experience. Assuming this doesn’t end my career and I can continue making films, I’ll likely explore genres beyond horror!”
In a 2024 interview with Konbini, Vaniček revealed that he was granted complete creative control over Evil Dead Burn after he and Bernard presented a 15-page proposal, complete with illustrations, to franchise creator Raimi and other producers. He also mentioned that this film stands alone and doesn’t directly link to the previous Evil Dead entries.
Long-standing Evil Dead series star Bruce Campbell recently discussed his limited involvement in the upcoming film, citing his busy schedule with his own projects (via The Horror Zine):
“I had significant involvement in the 2013 reboot and Evil Dead Rise. Currently, I’m dedicated to a multi-year project to pitch and distribute my new movie Ernie & Emma globally, so I won’t be heavily involved in the next films.”
The cast of Evil Dead Burn includes Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), Hunter Doohan (Your Honor), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), and Tandi Wright (Pearl).
Since its inception with Raimi’s original low-budget film, the Evil Dead series has amassed over $303 million worldwide. After a 20-year break following Army of Darkness, the series was revived in 2013 with a reboot that earned $99 million globally. If Evil Dead Burn mirrors the success of Evil Dead Rise, fans won’t have to wait another two decades for a seventh installment.
