July will see the release of Guy Ritchie’s latest R-rated action film.
After the debut of Fountain of Youth last year, Ritchie premiered his first 2026 film, In the Grey, in May. This action-packed thriller features Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González and was released concurrently with the popular horror film Obsession and the dark comedy Is God Is. The date for when In the Grey will be available for home viewing has now been announced.
Black Bear Pictures, the production company behind Ritchie’s work, has declared that In the Grey will be available on Blu-ray and DVD starting Tuesday, July 28. This release comes just over two months after the film’s initial public showing. It is also already available for digital purchase or rental.
The plot of In the Grey centers around Rachel Wild, portrayed by González, who is a cunning attorney. She joins forces with two operatives, Cavill’s Sid and Gyllenhaal’s Bronco, to claim a $1 billion debt from a formidable crime boss following the murder of her mentor. The movie also features performances by Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Fisher Stevens, and Rosamund Pike, among others. Ritchie took on multiple roles for this project, not only directing and writing but also producing alongside John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, and Ivan Atkinson.
The thriller has grossed nearly $24 million at the box office and has received a mixed critical response. It holds a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ critic-based Tomatometer, while the audience-based Popcornmeter gives it 83%. A review by ScreenRant gave In the Grey seven out of ten stars, noting that although the “star-powered cast brings plenty of charm, the storyline itself is somewhat conservative and predictable, rarely introducing elements that set it apart from other films in the genre.”
Even though opinions vary on where it stands among Ritchie’s films, the announcement of In the Grey‘s home media release indicates that the distribution phase is almost complete. Attention will soon turn to which streaming service will host the film. Fountain of Youth is currently exclusive to Apple TV, while Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare from 2024 is available on Peacock and Fandango at Home.
Looking ahead, Ritchie’s next project is the thriller Wife & Dog, set to hit theaters on October 23, featuring Pike, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Anthony Hopkins. In April, he also concluded filming his adaptation of the novel Viva la Madness, starring Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, and Jason Isaacs. Unlike the novel, Ritchie’s film adaptation will not serve as a direct sequel to Layer Cake, a 2004 film directed by Matthew Vaughn with Daniel Craig in the lead.
Additionally, In the Grey was released just two months after Ritchie’s latest TV series, Young Sherlock, premiered on Prime Video. The series, featuring Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn and marking Ritchie’s third exploration of the Sherlock Holmes lore after the Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law movies, received favorable reviews. Consequently, a second season of Young Sherlock has been confirmed, though its release date remains undecided.
