Loki’s Ke Huy Quan Reveals Ideal Zootopia Role for Tom Hiddleston: Perfect Casting?

Loki's Ke Huy Quan Has The Perfect Zootopia Character For Tom Hiddleston

Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster have been announced as the latest additions to the expansive universe of Zootopia 2. Quan is eager to see a familiar face from his past projects join the upcoming sequels. The Academy Award-winning actor from Everything Everywhere All at Once will voice the character Gary De’Snake, a cunning pit viper whose actions initially seem to thwart protagonists Nick and Judy, voiced by Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin, but who has deeper personal reasons for his behavior.

Feimster will voice Nibbles Maplestick, a beaver who hosts a podcast and subscribes to conspiracy theories, living within the newly introduced Marsh Market. The plot thickens as Judy and Nick are tasked by Mr. Big to locate Nibbles in hopes of uncovering a hidden reptilian community and to delve deeper into why reptiles were expelled from Zootopia.

As anticipation builds with the movie’s release, ScreenRant reporter Ash Crossan spoke with Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster about their involvement in Zootopia 2. They discussed the sequel’s significantly larger cast and speculated on potential stars for a third installment, should Disney decide to expand the series further.

Quan shared a humorous suggestion for Tom Hiddleston, his former colleague from the Loki series, proposing that he “play a giraffe” in Zootopia 3, highlighting Hiddleston’s height as a perfect fit for the role. He fondly recalled working with Hiddleston, noting the actor’s positive energy on set:

Ke Huy Quan: Seeing Tom on set was always a highlight. He’d arrive with his portable speaker, playing music loudly in the early morning hours, which really energized everyone. Imagining him as a giraffe, music blaring from a speaker around his neck seems quite fitting. Each day he’d choose different tunes, which was a fantastic way to wake up and kickstart our day.

When asked about Hiddleston’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Loki season 2 finale, Quan expressed no surprise at his return, given the iconic nature of Hiddleston’s character, and remained hopeful about other developments, stating, “we will see.”

Playing Animals Presented Unique Challenges for Quan & Feimster

During a discussion with ScreenRant, both actors shared insights into the complexities of voicing their animal characters:

Fortune Feimster: The premiere was packed! There were so many actors involved that it was hard to keep track of everyone who participated.

Ke Huy Quan: Absolutely, it’s a huge cast. During the premiere, I was constantly surprised by the names of co-stars I didn’t realize were in the movie.

ScreenRant: It was quite the challenge to pinpoint who was voicing which character throughout the film.

Ke Huy Quan: Yes, and the level of talent made it even more difficult. Everyone adjusted their voices so well. For instance, Josh Gad was hardly recognizable!

ScreenRant: What techniques did you use in the booth to embody a snake and a beaver?

Fortune Feimster: I focused on adding a Southern twist to Nibbles’ voice, which helped with the pronunciation aspects influenced by the beaver’s teeth.

Ke Huy Quan: I found myself physically mimicking what I believed Gary’s movements would be, gripping onto a bar in the booth to help. It was quite an energetic and sweaty process!

ScreenRant: The Zootopia characters have become iconic. How does it feel knowing these characters will be adored by children?

Fortune Feimster: It’s surreal to see Nibbles everywhere, even in airports. We recently saw a glimpse of the upcoming merchandise at Disney, and it’s overwhelming.

Ke Huy Quan: The merchandise is definitely a highlight. Seeing action figures and T-shirts with your character on them is incredible. I even have a custom Gary jacket from Levi’s!

ScreenRant: Fortune, how are you managing your tour with your filming schedule?

Fortune Feimster: It’s a busy time, balancing stand-up tours with filming a new show with Will Ferrell. But it’s exhilarating to develop a new hour of comedy that I’ll soon be filming as a special.
