Netflix ANZ’s Que Minh Luu Steps Down
Que Minh Luu, the Director of Content for Netflix in Australia and New Zealand, has announced her departure from the full-time role at the company. Despite stepping down, she will continue to serve as a creative consultant for Netflix for a period yet to be determined.
Contributions and Achievements
During her tenure at Netflix, Luu played a crucial role in developing several Australian original series, including notable titles such as Heartbreak High, Boy Swallows Universe, and Apple Cider Vinegar. One of her recent projects, Territory, although initially successful following its release in October of the previous year, was not renewed for a subsequent season.
Prior to her Netflix role, Luu had a significant career at ABC where she managed original productions in drama, comedy, and indigenous programming. Following her stint at ABC, she also held a position in scripted development at Matchbox Pictures. She joined Netflix in 2020 to lead the development of original content in Australia and expanded her responsibilities to include New Zealand in January 2021.
Continuing Impact at Netflix
Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s Vice President of Content for APAC, praised Luu’s contributions, stating, “Que is a hugely talented creative, and we are enormously grateful for the work she has done in launching our ANZ content team, and then building an impressive slate of loved titles like Heartbreak High, Boy Swallows Universe, and Apple Cider Vinegar.” Kim also expressed pleasure that Luu will remain involved with the company’s projects in a consulting capacity, ensuring her ongoing influence on local storytelling.
Future Endeavors in ANZ
Despite Luu’s departure from her directorial position, Netflix remains committed to their original content strategy in Australia and New Zealand. The streaming giant plans to continue investing and expanding its local market offerings, ensuring the development of compelling and regionally relevant content.
