Netflix Welcomes Mohammed Adnan to Lead U.S. Documentary Series
Mohammed Adnan, previously a development producer for HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, has been appointed as the new manager of documentary series for Netflix in the United States.
Prior to this role, Adnan held the position of Vice President of Development at Story Films, a company based in the United Kingdom but operating out of New York.
On LinkedIn, Adnan expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “I am excited to collaborate with some of the most gifted storytellers in the world at an organization that has dramatically transformed the realm of documentary filmmaking.” He highlighted recent successful Netflix documentaries such as Michael Jackson: The Verdict, The American Experiment, and Dynasty: The Murdochs.
Adnan is now part of a team at Netflix that includes Chloe Gbai, manager of original documentaries, and Molly Harrington, director of original documentary series. His previous experience includes a stint with All3Media-backed Story Films, known for producing The Manhattan Alien Abduction for Netflix. Adnan’s career also includes significant roles at October Films, where he led U.S. development, and at Pulse Films, where he served as Global Head of Development. Following his departure, Story Films has begun the search for Adnan’s successor.
Among Adnan’s notable achievements are his work on the Emmy-nominated Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which was a major success that reunited the film series’ stars and directors, including JK Rowling. His portfolio also includes projects like Inside Missguided: Made in Manchester, Desi Rascals, and Don’t Scream.
Reflecting on his career journey, Adnan shared, “The moment the BBC approved my first documentary when I was just starting out as a TV runner, I knew this was my passion. That experience ignited my love for documentary storytelling, leading me across the globe from the UK to the US, working with some of the most brilliant and creative minds along the way. After years of pitching, securing approvals, and producing films and series, I always wondered if I would eventually find myself on the commissioning side of the table. Today, I am thrilled to say that I have reached that milestone as I take on my new role at Netflix as Manager, Documentary Series.”
