A Grim Scenario for Wagner Moura and Greta Lee in Netflix’s Latest Sci-Fi Horror
In the chilling new sci-fi horror thriller from Netflix, Wagner Moura and Greta Lee find themselves in a dire predicament. Directed by Louis Leterrier, The Last House introduces viewers to a family that is mysteriously confined within their own home, battling against dwindling supplies and an ominous threat from outside.
Netflix has recently unveiled a series of initial images that give us a glimpse into the terrifyingly confined atmosphere of the movie, helmed by the director known for The Incredible Hulk. The Last House is slated for release on August 7.
Unsettling Images Unveiled
In the first of the newly released images, we see a seemingly normal scene where parents Ann (played by Lee) and Jason (Oscar nominee Moura) are gardening indoors with their daughter (Emma Ho). However, the normalcy is short-lived. In the subsequent image, fear is evidently taking hold of Lee as she looks anxiously to her right. Another still captures Jason, Ann, and two of their children (Alexander Noah Sosnowski and Riley Chung) petrified as they are bathed in a mysterious glow.
The final two images depict the house transforming into a prison: one shows four family members looking out through a window, while in another, Jason is seen staring out through a pane of glass streaked with rain, his expression one of despair.
Moura shared insights into his role during an interview, describing his character Jason as not only a father but a fierce guardian of his family. He emphasized the importance of keeping calm and maintaining stability amidst chaos.
Lee also spoke about her character Ann, referring to her as a pillar of strength. She described Ann as embodying the extraordinary physical and emotional surge known as hysterical strength, which occurs when ordinary people experience immense stress or danger. Lee assured the audience, “You will definitely be in for a surprise.”
Director’s Vision and Anticipation
Leterrier, while discussing The Last House—initially titled 11817 during its early announcement in May 2024—expressed his excitement about the project to Deadline. He focuses on creating films where viewers can connect deeply with the characters, whether they are flawed, complex, or heroic. His goal is to make the audience live through the characters’ journeys in a story that promises to be unforgettable.
After being showcased at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix acquired The Last House, adding it to its roster of original content.
