Nicholas Hoult Reveals Superman 2 Secrets: Lex Luthor’s Role in DCU to Expand!

Nicholas Hoult Teases How Superman 2 Will Expand The DCU's Lex Luthor

The DC Universe is expanding its Superman saga with the upcoming Man of Tomorrow, which will see Superman and Lex Luthor not as adversaries, but as unexpected partners. Just a few months following the debut of the Superman film in cinemas, a sequel is already in the works at DC Studios featuring David Corenswet reprising his role as the iconic superhero.

In a recent GQ interview, Nicholas Hoult, who played the notorious villain Lex Luthor in the 2025 film, shared that he “hasn’t read the script yet, but is looking forward to it, so there’s not much more I can reveal at this time.” Nonetheless, the English actor emphasized that his character Lex has more layers to be explored in the upcoming DCU movie.

The ex-X-Men star noted, “Playing Lex for the first time in that narrative, my initial research and preparation opened up many possibilities that I am eager to dive into and develop further.” With the production expected to commence in 2026, Hoult expressed his excitement about returning to the role, stating, “I’m thrilled we’re getting another opportunity to expand on this.”

The conclusion of the Superman film saw Lex Luthor incarcerated in Belle Reve after his plots were unveiled by The Daily Planet. Hoult, however, reprised his role in the sixth episode of Peacemaker Season 2, where he negotiated a crucial deal with Rick Flag Sr., which gradually builds his storyline for the 2027 sequel.

Principal shooting for the Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to kick off in April 2026, featuring Hoult and Corenswet alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. While we can expect other characters from the DCU to appear, the complete cast list remains unconfirmed.

According to Gunn, “The narrative focuses on Lex Luthor and Superman collaborating to some extent to combat a far greater menace.” Following the reveal of a script excerpt on September 22, 2025, speculation is rampant that Brainiac will be the central foe.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly dated September 26, 2025, Gunn was probed about whether Brainiac would indeed be the main antagonist in the sequel. However, the DC Studios co-CEO remained elusive, stating, “I think we’ll keep the specifics under wraps for now.”

When DC Studios and Gunn announced the sequel on September 3, 2025, they released a comic illustration of Lex in his Lexosuit, hinting that he will wear the armor in the next film alongside Corenswet’s Superman. The Man of Tomorrow is slated for a theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
