Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Prepares for Another Season of Positive Change

Bloomberg has greenlit a second season of An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, signaling more explorative adventures with the charismatic host.

In this upcoming season, viewers can expect to see Coster-Waldau delve deeper into his quest to spotlight innovative individuals around the globe—researchers, activists, and pioneers—working tirelessly to usher in a sustainable future for all.

With plans to commence filming this May and continue through August, the new six-episode season is scheduled for a Q4 release. Each episode will be available on Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Originals, and Bloomberg.com.

Global Travels and Inspirational Encounters

The second installment of Optimist’s Guide will take Coster-Waldau to numerous countries spanning continents including India, various European nations, and the Americas. Potential filming spots include Bengaluru, Lima, New Orleans, Helsinki, Paris, and Cartagena.

Reflecting on the first season, Coster-Waldau shared, “Season 1 of An Optimist’s Guide went beyond my expectations, highlighting our collective enthusiasm for tackling problems and forging a brighter future despite our diverse backgrounds.”

He added, “From exploring the Maasai Mara, diving into the Great Barrier Reef, to visiting an urban farm in Cleveland, I’ve seen how global citizens are sparking significant change through innovation and compassion. This journey has proven to me that optimism is far from naïve—it is a powerful force driven by proactive endeavor, and I’m eager to connect with more inspirational figures in Season 2.”

Famous for his role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, a role that earned him two Emmy nominations, Coster-Waldau is also venturing into new acting territories. He will star in the upcoming BBC drama series King & Conqueror alongside James Norton, who recently appeared at Series Mania.

Beyond acting, Coster-Waldau will appear in the second season of Apple TV+’s The Last Thing He Told Me, adapted from Laura Dave’s bestselling novel.

In 2019, he co-founded Ill Kippers Aps with writer Joe Derrick, venturing into production with projects like the Audible Original crime drama podcast Radioman, where Coster-Waldau voices the lead, and the Netflix film Against the Ice, which he co-wrote and starred in alongside Joe Cole.

The production of season two of Optimist’s Guide is a collaborative effort involving Canada and the UK, produced by Cream Productions and Wildfire Television, in association with Bloomberg and Ill Kippers Aps. Cineflix Rights will handle international distribution.

The executive production team for Season Two includes David W. Brady, Philip Clarke, Kate Harrison Karman, Coster-Waldau, Derrick, Jennifer Baichwal, and Nicholas de Pencier, with Cream’s Stephanie Weimar serving as the series producer. Bloomberg’s team comprises executive producers Kyle Kramer and Lidz-Ama Appiah, and supervising producer Madison Paglia.

Cream Productions, known for their work on The Texas Cheerleader Murder Plot for Max, History of the Sitcom for CNN, and other notable series, continues to produce compelling content across various platforms.
