Ridley Scott's Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Thriller Reveals War Between Survivors In The Dog Stars Trailer

New Trailer Unveiled for Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars”

The latest preview for The Dog Stars showcases a fierce conflict among survivors in Ridley Scott’s new post-apocalyptic science fiction movie.

Ridley Scott directs the film, which features a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, known for The Revenant. The movie is an adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 novel and stars Jacob Elordi as a former civilian pilot navigating life post a catastrophic flu pandemic with his dog. The film’s cast also includes notable actors such as Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Allison Janney.

Recently, 20th Century Studios released a gripping trailer for The Dog Stars that focuses on the intense battles among the survivors. The trailer introduces Elordi as Hig, the protagonist and a pilot who survived the flu outbreak but lost his wife. Josh Brolin plays Bangley, a former Marine and survival expert, while Margaret Qualley portrays Cima, a medic and Hig’s romantic interest.

The three characters have established a hidden, well-operated sanctuary. However, the plot thickens when Hig picks up an enigmatic radio signal, prompting him to set out in search of it, fueled by a belief in enduring hope and human connection. The trailer climaxes with a thrilling sequence of Hig racing to take flight in a plane while being chased by a group of marauders known as Reapers, who are on horseback.

The ensemble cast brought together by Scott for The Dog Stars shines brightly, featuring Oscar winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya), who appears in the trailer. Although Benedict Wong and Oscar nominee Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) are part of the cast, they do not feature in this particular trailer. Additional cast members include Alara-Star Khan and Sebastian Rokison-Woodall.

The initial trailer for The Dog Stars debuted at CinemaCon in April, where Guy Pearce was seen portraying Pops, Cima’s father and a former Navy SEAL, hinting at a potential antagonist role in the dynamics between Hig and Bangley.

Ridley Scott, a veteran in the sci-fi genre with classics like Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982), as well as action films such as Gladiator (2000) and Black Hawk Down (2001), ventures into a post-apocalyptic setting for the first time with The Dog Stars. The film merges elements of sci-fi and action while drawing inspiration from works like I Am Legend, The Last of Us, and The Road.

The recent trailer not only emphasizes the film’s action-packed nature but also highlights Scott’s dedication to maintaining the emotional depth of Heller’s acclaimed novel, noted for its mix of humor and poetic narrative.

Although The Dog Stars has encountered a staggered release schedule, the allure of a new Ridley Scott film combined with its stellar cast may drive this sci-fi adaptation towards box office success when it finally hits theaters on August 28.
