Rose Bertram: Supermodel Finally Shares Long-Held Secret in Candid New Doc

EXCLUSIVE: Belgian model Rose Bertram has spoken candidly about a new documentary that traces both her professional life and the challenges within her family, including how she has managed her mother’s battle with addiction.

Filming on A Girl Like Rose has concluded. Bertram said watching the finished movie felt overwhelming, as if her life unfolded on screen. She explained that revisiting those moments stirred up powerful feelings and brought long-buried traumas back into view.

The documentary was captured over a six-year period and is the work of director Jonathan de Jong, produced under his Amsterdam-based outfit SUPER7EVEN Productions.

Bertram first rose to prominence as a teenager and has modeled for brands such as H&M, L’Oréal, Associated Press and Sports Illustrated, while also establishing herself as an influencer and content creator. A Girl Like Rose portrays the glossy side of modeling in locations like Cannes, Ibiza and Los Angeles, but it also follows Bertram off the catwalks and red carpets as she juggles her career and the fraught relationship with her mother, Maria, as addiction affects their lives.

She reflected that a secret she had guarded for years is now out in the open — a fact she feels proud of yet exposed by. The film, she said, makes plain how deeply she cares for her mother while also laying bare how addiction can make sustaining that love painfully difficult.

Bertram says revealing her long-held secret felt exposing but also freeing.

Bertram added that, despite the pain of reopening old wounds, she hopes her openness will resonate with others who have faced similar hardships. If sharing her experience helps even a single person feel less isolated or encourages someone to talk about their own struggles, she believes the decision to go public will have been worthwhile.
