EXCLUSIVE: Saban Films has secured the U.S. distribution rights for the horror film Son of Sara: Volume 1, directed by Canadian filmmaker Houston Bone. The movie revolves around a distressed expectant mother who finds herself at a dinner party that spirals into a chaotic, blood-soaked ordeal.
Visit Films, a company based in New York, finalized this agreement and plans to continue promoting the film at the European Film Market in the upcoming month.
The film features performances by Chloe Van Landschoot (Lune, From), Tymika Tafari (Settle Down), Garrett Hnatiuk (Father’s Day), and Jane Moffat (Fahrenheit 451).
Son of Sara: Volume 1 premiered at the Blood in the Snow Festival in Toronto in November 2025, where Chloe Van Landschoot earned the festival’s Best Lead Performance in a Feature Film award.
Houston Bone initially gained recognition through his work on the Canadian Screen Award-nominated web series Teenagers, which accumulated over 20 million views on YouTube during its run from 2014 to 2017.
Bone’s first feature film, I Don’t Know Who You Are, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 and was later released across North America in 2024. Additionally, his short films Ghost (2020) and Spaghetti (2023) have been well-received on the festival circuit.
Upon the sale of the film to Saban Films, Houston Bone expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “After captivating audiences in Toronto at the Blood in the Snow this past winter, we are thrilled to collaborate with Saban to introduce our spine-chilling horror film, along with our intriguing new creature, to viewers throughout the United States.”
“The creation of Son of Sara: Volume 1 has been a labor of love since its filming in October 2023. It’s been a journey of dedication and hard work to bring this movie to fruition. The positive reactions from festival goers have been overwhelmingly encouraging and fulfilling. It’s incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to present our film on an international platform,” Bone added.
The film is produced by Martine Brouillet under the Black Elephant Productions banner, with financial backing from Grisly Productions LLC and additional support from Telefilm Canada.
